The multi-cultural state with various ethnicities was a strong factor of the airport receiving more than 8 million passengers a year. This was also one of the reasons for the airport to be incorporated with ethnic patterns such as the patterns of the Rungus and Bajau ethnic groups into the design of the floor tiles.
